This course introduces students to common root words that are the building
blocks for the majority of medical terms. Students will learn about
terms for various systems, including the musculoskeletal, integumentary,
digestive, cardiovascular, respiratory, urinary, reproductive,
and neurosensory systems, as well as directional terms. They will
also learn about prefix and suffixes, and common medical abbreviations
used in hospitals and lab tests. Finally, students will learn how
to determine the meaning of a long medical word by dissecting the
individual pieces (prefix, root, suffix).
